Just over the water, only 3 stops from Shimonoseki on a local train is Kyushu, the big southern island of Japan. The first town over the water is Mojiko. You can actually see it from the pier when you are standing by Shimonoseki Pier. Mojiko has a lot of Western influences, and the buildings are soooooo different than everything else in Japan. We got there, and it was such a different change from Shimonoseki. The buildings were very bright and beautiful and it's such a nice atmosphere down there!
