A shrine outside the Shopping mall

I had started to notice there were a lot of little shrines, outside of houses and restaurants and such. They we generally set up high off the ground, and sometimes had offerings on them. Later, I asked our tour guide about them and his explanation was that gods owned the land, but when we build on it for our use, we need to make a place for the gods to live. So there, they have their own house, while we "rent" the land from them. It was pret cute, and I hadn't really expected to see one at the shopping mall, but there it was. It was really large and very ornate and even had two stone lions guarding it!
