The 3 Rondavels

The next day, we left Johannesburg and headed out towards the three Rondavels, these mountain structures. To be honest, there was so much driving on the trip, and thankfully I didn't have to do it. I think we drove six hours to get there, and stopping along the way. We learnt very quickly how poor

the rest of the areas outside of the city was, but lso how nice their service station was, and also that in car parks, there are attendants whose jobs it is to watch your car! We arrived at the three rondavels, which are named after traditional South Arfrican houses. It was really pretty, and at least a nice spot on our long road trip!

Walking with the Cheetahs

The reason we decided to come to the Lion park, over anywhere else, was mainly to do this Cheetah experience they have. You are able to walk with the Cheetah and interact with them. We booked it online, and got the last spot of the day. It usually is done in a

seperate cage, but we were able to go into the main caged field which was really interesting. We got out of the bus, and I was really scared to get out, because the cheetahs came right on over to the bus (They associate it with being fed). After we got used to them a little, they are happy to walk along side you and the guide, let you throw meat for them, and let you pet them too! They are really just like giant cats - it was so surreal. These cheetahs have been here their whole lives, so they

aren't particularily scared of humans either. I was a little nervous, but eventualy I wasn't by the end. The lion park has a photographer who roams around with you, taking photos for you, on your mobile or on your phone. I was really pleased that we were able to buy some of the photos for quite cheap, because they were just great!

Feeding the Ostriches!

For some reason, I have always loved Ostriches, and since they had a few at the Lion park, I decided to buy some ostrich food, and I was so excited to feed them. I think they are really cute, to be honest! It was really good fun, and we got to use the spare food to feed the giraffes too!

Meeting the Lions

The main reason to go to the Lion park is to see the Lions! We really didn't know what we would see on Safari, and we decided we really wanted to go. We chose the Lion park over a lot of other places in Johannesburg to go to, and I'm glad we did. They have tons of

lions at the park, and they aren't bothered by the cars at all. As soon as we arrived in Johannesburg, Daddy met up with a company who rents out camera lenses, so I had a giant lens for the holiday. The lens was so good, I was tooooooo close to the lions to get them all in the photo!

They also have this cute thing where you can go in for two minutes and interact with the lion cubs. I think we all thought the cubs would be a little smaller, and more awake, but we did get to stroke them, and see how big their feet were. They were sleeping

so much, apparently, because it was so warm out! And it certainly was! It was nice to get to be up close to the lions, even if they were littler than the big magestic ones we saw!

Visiting the Lion Park

We didn't travel again until February, mainly because we were just home from England, and Josh is working on his Master's degree. We try and save the big vacations now for the big holidays we have! And we only have one week in February. It's called ski week here in Germany, because most people will go skiing in the Alps during that time, but we were desperate for warm weather, so we headed off to

South Africa! We first flew to London, and then to Johannesburg. I wasn't exhausted, because for once, I had actually gotten some sleep. We checked into our nice hotel, and then headed out to the Lion Park. It's like a safari park, more like we have in England, but with more interaction with the animals. We got to drive around and see all sorts of animals before we got to the Lions!

Snow in Frankfurt

Not long after we got back, very early Sunday morning, a friend of ours stopped by our house, as he had locked himself out of ours. I then realised that it had snowed overnight, so, as I was up nice and early, I decided to head to the little park near our house and take some photos of the snow. Right near our house is this park, and inside the park is this Chinese garden section, complete with this nice temple and cute little pond and little stone lions and arches. It was super pretty

to be out so early in the morning. In German, Sundays are really quiet, but Sunday mornings are super, super quiet. The park wasn't deserted, there were a few other photographers out and about, taking pictures.

I don't think that my pictures were particularily nice, but it was nice to wander around the church, and go through the crunchy, new snow. It wasn't wet enough to build a snowman, but it was just so nice to be out and about in the snow. It melted really quickly after....it never does stay around for long!

I've missed a Full English!

We didn't have tons of time on Sunday, so we had breakfast, got a few groceries and then headed out to the airport. But it was so nice to get a full English breakfast. I'm not even a fan of the black pudding, the bacon or the mushrooms - so it could be made at home, but it is the most nostalgic British food ever!
